Belgrade City Council unanimously approved a $450,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant application for the Mayfair Meadows Bike Park during its May 18 meeting. The project requires the city and its partners to match 50 percent of the grant funds. Funding sources include a $100,000 county open-lands grant, donations coordinated by the Belgrade Community Coalition, and $400,000 allocated by the Parks District in its capital improvement budget. Phase 1 construction will include a bike pump track, bathroom, parking lot, access routes, trail pathways, utilities, irrigation, landscaping, and fencing. Staff indicated the grant program may be available again next year, and additional matching funds could potentially unlock more federal dollars for future phases.
In other business, the council completed a two-year process by unanimously adopting revised subdivision regulations compliant with the Montana Land Use Planning Act. City Manager Neil Cardwell noted the adopted regulations are based on a template from the League of Cities and Towns used by many Montana municipalities to meet state requirements. Cardwell said staff would bring forward Belgrade-specific modifications to the regulations in coming weeks. The council also heard updates from the City Manager regarding Montana Department of Transportation resurfacing work on Main Street beginning May 19, which will limit traffic to a single lane with no on-street parking. Spring yard waste cleanup is scheduled for May 19 and 20.
